The RWS Surf Series: On the Right Coast, With the Right Crew

Every year, the ocean gives us seasons.

At RWS Surf School, we decided to give those seasons a story.

That story is the RWS Surf Series—three epic events that mark the rhythm of the year on the Crystal Coast. Not just competitions. Not just surf days. These are gatherings of our community, our families, our groms, our veterans, and everyone who feels called to the water.

Chapter One: Walk the Plank, Ride the Waves

April 25 – Emerald Isle

Spring is the awakening.

It’s the moment the wetsuits come back out, boards get waxed, and the crew returns to the lineup after winter. “Walk the Plank, Ride the Waves” kicks off the series with a pirate spirit that honors the history of the Crystal Coast and the courage it takes—especially for beginners and groms—to step into the ocean.

This is the season opener. The gathering. The day the flag is raised and the year truly begins.

Chapter Two: Groms & Ghouls

November 1 – Emerald Isle

Fall is the test.

The water is colder. The air is sharper. Costumes hit the beach. Groms push past comfort, parents cheer in hoodies, and the crew proves that surf isn’t just a summer thing—it’s a lifestyle.

“Groms & Ghouls” is where fun meets grit, and where courage gets celebrated as much as style.

Chapter Three: Sleigh the Waves

December 19 – Emerald Isle

Winter is the celebration.

Santa in a wetsuit. Surfboards wrapped in lights. Families huddled together on the sand. “Sleigh the Waves” closes the series with gratitude, joy, and the kind of stoke that reminds us why we do this in the first place.

It’s not about how big the waves are—it’s about how strong the community has become.

More Than Events. A Crew.

The RWS Surf Series is built around one idea:

Surf is better when it’s shared.

Shared between parents and kids.

Between locals, visitors, and anyone willing to show up with respect for the ocean and for each other.
